Sixtieth Anniversary Celebrations of Alfie Lambe in Buenos Aires - January 2019

Noel Lynch and Noelia Garcia travelled to Buenos Aires where they took part in the 60th anniversary celebrations of Alfie Lambe.

There were many meetings with the different groups of legionaries who came from Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Uruguay and all the councils of Argentina.

Noelia was able to explain in detail to all how Alfie’s Cause is progressing and the importance of keeping up the momentum for his beatification.

Meetings were organised with those legionaries who had the privilege of working with Alfie all those years ago and they gave their testimonies of his humility, spirituality and his Legion life.

On 20th and 21st January Masses were celebrated in the huge Cathedral in the city centre of Buenos Aires, which was packed to capacity.During both days a continuous stream of legionaries passed Alfie’s tomb in La Recolecta cemetery, stopping to pray the Rosary and full Legion prayers.

Alex Craig, a great-grand-nephew of Alfie was present with his Argentinian wife Agustina.

The local Church beside the cemetery was overflowing for the Mass and later all-day sessions relating to Alfie’s life took place in the parish centre.

Next day the ceremonies concluded with a visit to the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lujan with another concelebrated Mass for Alfie in that beautiful Basilica.
