EUROPE

AUSTRIA (and Councils under Caretakership)
Austrian Senatus: Winter and Summer Schools promoted the Year of Mercy and the 300th Anniversary of the death of St. Louis Marie De Montfort. 3 of 9 directly attached praesidia reported. One works with street girls; the other two are student praesdia whose apostolate includes promoting the, ‘Key2 Life’ Festival and a musical street apostolate. West Vienna Curia had 13 at a study day on the Muslim faith. Burgenland Curia organised a two-day Faith Deepening event with Bishop Schneider.
Zwetti Comitium: Two Retreats for youth had attendances of 22 and 90.

CZECH REPUBLIC
Olmuetz Comitium and Brunn Curia: As a result of visitation of the sick, 237 persons were anointed. 50 legionaries attended the Winter School.

UKRAINE
Sr. Kriss and Bro. Hager from Austrian Senatus visited Ukraine for 2 weeks and will attend the Summer School. 6 of the 10 Councils started new praesidia last year. The first Retreat was held in Nikolaew. 25 marriages were regularised and 261 returned to the Sacraments. There are now 10 African student praesidia. An elderly person was baptised through the Greek Catholic praesidium. Follow up was done on the Greek Catholic Tessera and the Ukranian Handbook.

MOLDOVIA
The Legion exists in 7 of the 9 parishes. They visit the lapsed, the poor and the sick, also hold Patrician meetings.

SLOVAKIA
Zseliz Comitium: Kolon praesidium uses 5 Pilgrim Statues on family visitation and their youth praesidium started an adult paesidium in Csistar.

BULGARIA
The young adults’ praesidium in Sofia does street contact and gives religious instruction to children.

BELARUS
The Comitium Acies took place on 2nd April after Holy Mass celebrated by Bishop Yury Kasabutsky. Reports were given on Curia visitation to 2 praesidia. A Minsk praesidium presented its annual report. It has 14 full members, 2 probationers, 34 auxiliaries and a junior praesidium attached. One of their works works is contact with Jehovah Witnesses and followers of Occultism. Special tribute was paid to one of their members on his 80th birthday – Bro. Anatoly Gorodetsky, one of the first legionaries in Belarus.

CROATIA
Zagreb Regia: The Radio Maria programme continues monthly. The topic presented in January was ‘The Legion of Mary in everyday Life’. Reports were received from 6 directly attached praesidia and 8 Curiae. Numerous returns to the Sacraments were reported from both praesidia and Curiae. Dugo Selo Curia has 13 praesidia, 2 Nazareth groups and 2 children’s groups. Zagreb South Curia reported the reconciliation of a mother and son after 40 years.

COUNTRIES UNDER CARETAKERSHIP OF ZAGREB REGIA
SLOVENIA
Four Slovenian legionaries aided by 4 from Croatia and 2 from Austria presented the Legion in the town of Grosuplje in Slovenia. One person came to the first meeting as well as the Parish Priest who is willing to be Spiritual Director. Other presentations will be made.

BOSNIA HERZGOVINA
Sarajevo Curia has 7 praesidia affiliated. Efforts to establish praesidia in the Franciscan parishes are on-going.

HUNGARY
Budapest Regia: Reports were received from 6 praesidia, 9 Curiae and 5 Comitia and detailed statistics for 2015 received. The March Regia meeting held during the Winter School had an attendance of 131 legionaries and 9 priests. Works undertaken mainly consist of visitation of the sick and elderly and helping them to receive the Sacraments, organising Pilgrimages and Church work. A Curia in Kistausa leads a youth club and Pecs Curia taught children in Creches and in Primary Schools how to pray.

LATVIA
Regia Comitium: This council has 3 Curiae and 12 directly attached praesidia. A praesidium of 8 members with a junior praesidium of 5 members does street contact, hospital visitation and started a discussion group. Jelgava Curia has 3 praesidia, and Rezekne Curia 10 praesidia. A Recruiting Drive in Aluksne resulted in 3 persons joining, increasing the membership of a praesidium to 7. Leipijia Curia has 2 praesidia. The Comitium organised 2 recruiting drives. Visitation of praesidia and promotion of the 3 Causes featured in all reports.

LITHUANIA
Kaunas Comitium has 13 directly attached praesidia and 7 Curiae. Three recruiting drives resulted in 4 people taking on membership. A praesidium of 8 members in Vilnius visits disabled people and those living alone. Legionaries take some old people shopping and to Sunday Mass, also arrange for visits to their homes by priests. Many met in a Day Centre have no religion, or are lapsed for years. The Miraculous Medal is promoted.
Telsiai Comitium has 11 directly attached praesidia and 2 Curiae with a total of 231 members, 85 of whom are Praetorians. People met on home and hospital visitation resulted in returns to the Sacraments after 8, 25 and 50 years.

POLAND
Lublin Regia: A major event was the Commemoration of the 300th anniversary of the death of St. Louis Marie de Montfort, which coincided with the 30th anniversary of the Legion in Lublin. The event was held in the Catholic University of Lublin. There were 10 sessions with notable speakers. Extension efforts resulted in an increase of 61 new members and 2 new praesidia. Works include home visitation, visits to the sick in their homes, to hospitals and care homes, contact with addicts, alcoholics, Jehovah Witnesses and people in Night Shelters, traders, visitation of prisons and street-contact promoting the Miraculous Medal. Fruits of their apostolate include: 6 couples had their marriages regularised, 7 children baptised; 4 people confirmed; 10 children made 1st Holy Communion and 120 people received the Sacrament of Penance.

ROMANIA
Satu Mare Regia: Works include, hospital visitation, organising Eucharistic Adoration and leading the Rosary in the Church, plus many works of service and Parish activities. Two legionaries were appointed to join a Parish Programme called ‘Row to the Deep’, which will last for 2 years.
Oradea Comitium: Legionaries are accompanied by the priests on some of their activities. Curia Sakor promoted the 8 weeks of prayer for the Unity of Christians. 52 legionaries in Baia Mare Curia take part in a Vigil each Thursday in atonement to the Heart of Jesus. Bucharest Curia: A weekend Summer School is being organised by Austria for the officers of the 8 praesidia.

SOUTH AMERICA

COLOMBIA
Bogota Senatus: During this period 3 Comitia, 1 Curia and two praesidia reported. Four officers of the Senatus are also officers in attached councils. Great efforts are being made to encourage the Sacrament of Reconciliation during this year of Mercy. All councils and praesidia report big numbers of auxiliaries and Adjutorians.
Medellin Senatus: One Comitium has two junior praesidia. Legionaries teach catechism in the homes of the disabled. Housebound legionaries do Legion apostolate by telephone.
ECUADOR
Senatus of Quito: The Legion house in Cuenca is being renovated with help from legionaries; one floor is completed. There is mention of extension, Exploratio Dominicalis, new praesidia and re-organising existing praesidia. Esmeraldas Comitium has 383 seniors in 7 Curiae and 2 junior praesidia.

URUGUAY
Senatus of Montevideo: The Senatus has consolidated a praesidium of young adults in the capital and is trying to form a junior praesidium. They had a stand at an Archdiocesan celebration which was visited by many laity and religious including, Cardinal Sturla. They also attended a National Gathering of the Laity at which they met Bishop of Melo and spoke with him about the Legion and an upcoming PPC Project to his Diocese.

VENEZUELA
Senatus of Caracas: Several new praesidia have been established. Maria et Patria and PPC projects have taken place. Works include visitation of a jail and a military hospital, contact with indigenous peoples and with prostitutes. A day of evangelisation was held for prisoners; one Jehovah Witness was converted. They report having very little Legion literature.

CHILE
Senatus of Santiago: A Congress will be held in August. Columban Drives have been carried out in many parishes. The Senatus has a good group of experienced and new correspondents for their distant affiliated councils. Home visitation is given great importance; parishes are huge, so frequent visits to a small number of families are recommended. Street contact is common and contact is made with those waiting in queues at hospitals. Also reported was contact with indigenous tribes, immigrants, sailors, lorry drivers and street people. Legionaries are responsible for directing the many parish prayer groups.

BOLIVIA
Senatus of La Paz: The new Senatus President has visited the distant councils of Cochabamba, Beni, Sucre and Santa Cruz. At each Senatus meeting a report is given of the correspondence with outlying and distant councils. One of the councils does a lot of street contact, including in the markets, where a public Rosary is said. Some councils have vibrant juniors. In the Comitium of Potosí a number of junior legionaries joined the Missionaries of Charity. The recitation of the Rosary is taught in schools and to families on home visitation.

PERU
Senatus of Lima: Recruiting drives took place in various councils. One attached Comitium set up 5 new praesidia. A Curia visited 4,000 homes and recruited 16 people to active membership. All councils and praesidia have large numbers of auxiliaries. Masses for the Causes were arranged.

PARAGUAY
Senatus of Asunción: 3 Comitia, 4 Curiae and 5 praesidia reported. The Senatus held a National Youth Conference, founded a Comitium in the Diocese of Caacupe and attended a National Meeting of Lay People. A print-out of the 33 day preparation for taking on de Montfort’s True Devotion has been forwarded to all Councils. The Comitium in Caballero has 8 adult Curiae, a juvenile Curia of 8 praesidia and 1 group of Semilleros. Works include visitation of the sick at home, in hospitals and Sanatoriums, evangelisation in the Regional Prison and through the radio, helping couples experiencing difficulties, catechesis and Exploratio Dominicalis. In the Comitium based in Encarnacion, a praesidium with 13 members, plus 3 on probation has 161 auxiliaries, 28 Adjutorians and 3 Pretorians. The Comitium in Ciudad del Este has 30 attached Curiae comprising 610 senior praesidia and 22 groups of semilleros. They report 7 Patrician Groups. Two new Curiae and 29 senior praesidia were set up. An apostolate is carried out via a Radio station.

ASIA

NEW ZEALAND
Auckland Senatus: At a three-day Eucharistic Convention two slots of 40 minutes were allocated to the Legion. Much interest was shown and many enquiries made about starting a praesidium. A praesidium of 9 members, including Praetorians, prepared 11 Maori students, aged 14-17 years for the Sacraments of Baptism Confirmation and Blessed Eucharist. Other works reported included bereavement follow up, counseling couples who are thinking of separating and the Rosary taught in schools. Juniors are very active in Auckland. 3 members visited Samoa where there are 5 Comitia, 11 Curiae, 58 praesidia and 2 junior Curiae. The Legion overall is working very well.

AUSTRALIA
Sydney Senatus: A Parish Priest was very impressed with the returns to the Sacraments following an Exploratio Dominicalis project. Visiting nursing homes provides the legionaries with an opportunity to contact the priest for last- minute conversions. Book barrows operate in the main city streets. Teaching catechism resulted in 17 being baptised at Easter in the Indonesian community. Brisbane Comitium: The Rosary was taught for 6 weeks in a school, and a monthly Rosary is recited during a hospital radio broadcast. 30 to 40 attend a monthly Rosary group. Holy Communion is brought to nursing homes, and a priest is taken to the lapsed. Legionaries assist the Parish Priest in the Sacramental Programme. Extension was undertaken to 5 parishes and much interest shown. A pilgrimage is organised for the Year of Mercy.
Melbourne Senatus: One legionary was complimented on her faithful attendance despite an 8 hour return journey. A Summer School was held with the Theme, ‘The Interior Life of Legionaries’. Hobart Curia, Tasamina, has 5 praesidia. Bro. Jim Stoppa and his legionary daughter spent 10 days giving talks in many parishes; much interest was shown.
Noumea Comitium: (New Caledonia) has 9 Curia. Wallis Curia has 6 praesidia and Futuna Island has 2 praesidia attached to Wallis Curia.

PHILIPPINES
Bicolandia Senatus: Stall owners are encouraged to pray before opening their stalls. Hospital, jail, home and nursing home visitation was done. Enthronement of the Sacred Heart was promoted and catechism taught to 1,000 elementary students, 600 secondary students and the parents of 563 First Communicants.
Mindanao Senatus: Two praesidia drawn from City Hall employees hold their meeting during their lunch hour, evangelise among their fellow workers and on the nearby streets. Persistence by members in visiting an elderly man over 2 years resulted in his return to the Sacraments. A Seminarian who had become a Jehovah Witnesses has been brought back to the Catholic faith by legionaries. Senatus of Northern Philippines: At the March meeting all councils were reminded to hold Congresses at Curia level, also to Audit the Treasurer’s Books and submit the report to the next highest council.
Silang Comitium: A Curia held its first Congress with an attendance of 300. Another Comitium had 44 lapsed brought back to Church and taught catechism to 1,400 school children and 50 prison inmates. A Comitium with 95 parishes has 51 parishes without the Legion. An effort is to be made to contact the Parish Priests, deliver the Maria Legionis and do an Exploratio Dominicalis.
San Pedro Comitium reported an increase in members through the intercession of Frank Duff.
Imus Comitium recruited 5 priests as Adjutorian members.
Mount Hagen Regia: PNG supervise 9 Comitia, 6 senior Curiae and 7 senior praesidia. It has approx. 4,000 members. The visitation to councils who fail to attend the Regia or submit their reports is undertaken.
Western Visayas Senatus: 4 Comitia, 1 Regia, 4 senior Curiae and 1 junior Curia reported. Exploratio Dominicalis projects featured. Many conversions of Baptists, Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses were reported. A Born again Christian was converted and later joined the Legion.
Regia of Negros Occidental has a Seminary praesidium which is very active in a jail, promoted Confession and Mass attendance. As a result of Exploratio Dominicalis, 66 couples had their marriages validated and 150 adults were baptised. Catechism was taught to over 4,000 children and adults.
Cebu Senatus: All reports are thorough, covering substantial works. Visitation is well programmed and effected. Directly attached praesidia are very active and auxiliary membership has increased.

IRISH PROVINCIAL REPORT
COMITIA

Dromore Comitium: Burren junior praesidium members serve Mass, offer Miraculous Medals to other children and study the children’s Bible. Rostrevor praesidium undertakes home visitation, promotes the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association and brings Holy Communion to ill parishioners. The Comitium promotes the Confession leaflet on visitation and in schools. A young legionary is entering the Seminary.
Navan Comitium: A praesidium with 5 members has 21 auxiliaries. They visited 220 homes in the parish and a nursing home fortnightly to conduct an hour of prayer with the residents. A book barrow stall is operated in Navan Shopping Centre and a public Rosary is recited outside the Shopping Centre. Mullingar Curia: Tullamore praesidium has 9 members who promote the Alfie Lambe Cause and are constantly in touch with legionaries in Argentina. They helped set up a praesidium in County Westmeath. Trim Curia has 7 praesidia. They formed a Children’s Club, promote Adoration and teach Catechism.
Derry Comitium: The praesidium in Creggan undertakes home visitation, school Rosary and Pilgrim Statue apostolate. Another reporting praesidium has as its main works, home visitation, school Rosary and Pilgrim Statue. The Youth Conference held in Thornhill College on 14th May had 12 young people present. Mater Dei Curia has 11 praesidia. Our Lady of Zion Curia has 6 praesidia. Their works include hospital and residential home visitation.
Raphoe Comitium has 9 senior praesidia, one junior praesidium and one Curia attached. One senior praesidium is Gaelic-speaking. A junior praesidium in Stranorlar has 7 members aged from 7 to 13 years. Carrigart praesidium has 6 members who visit senior parishioners living alone. They present a small statue of Our Lady and a Bible to each child making First Holy Communion. South West Raphoe Curia: The statue of Our Lady was given to a lady who had been told she had cancer. When they collected the statue 2 weeks later she said her scan showed she had no cancer. The people in her workplace who heard the story begged to have the statue and this is being arranged.

CURIAE

Leitrim Curia: A praesidium of 12 in Longford town is comprised mainly of Slovakians. They reach out to the Slovakian community and encourage couples who live together to get married. After the Slovakian Mass they organise tea. A Czech man came for help as his partner was dying and they wanted to get married. The legionaries, a social worker and a member of the Society of St. Vincent De Paul all helped to arrange the marriage. The lady died 2 weeks later. An Exploratio Dominicalis project took place in Edgeworthstown with 16 legionaries participating.
Clogher Curia: There are 6 praesidia in the West Clogher Curia and 6 in the former Mid Clogher Curia. Belco praesidium is involved in all parish activities. The Concilium Officer in charge of Ireland and the Correspondent visited the May Curia meeting and had a meeting with the officers beforehand. Two members from the former Mid Clogher Curia attended the Curia meeting.
Kilmore Curia: A letter was received from Kilmore Pastoral Centre inviting legionaries to join them in an afternoon of prayer to mark the Jubilee Year of Mercy in St. Patrick’s Church. Ballinamore.
Clonmacnoise Curia: There are 3 praesidia attached with a total membership of 24. Works include home and nursing home visitation. Miraculous Medals are distributed to First Communion and Confirmation classes.
Armagh Curia: Two legionaries took their Promise. Mass was celebrated and the Edel Quinn prayer said on 12th May in the morning and the Edel Quinn prayer said and a talk given on Edel at the evening Mass. The praesidium in Armagh was asked to lead the Rosary in the Cathedral for the Corpus Christi Procession. They also recited the Rosary in an Estate every Monday in May.
Drogheda Curia: The praesidium in the Holy Family parish is very involved in the parish. Their works include home visitation, visiting a Day Care Centre and four hospitals. A Maria et Patria project organised by the Curia took place in this parish on 21 and 22 March. With the great support of the Parish Priest, Fr. David Bradley and two other priests, including the Spiritual Director of the Curia, Fr. Derek O’Connell, 31 legionaries from Leinster and Ulster visited 924 homes. They met 215 practising and 230 lapsed Catholics. One lady expressed an interest in becoming a Catholic.
Dundalk Curia: To celebrate the Year of Mercy a praesidium with 9 members and 62 auxiliaries distributed 2,500 Confession leaflets to homes. For Catholic Schools Week they showed the DVD on ‘Meet the Legion’ to 5th and 6th classes. A new praesidium has been set up in Kilcurry parish with four members.
Annunciata Curia: (Diocese of Down & Connor): Three praesidia reports were presented in April. One Sunday, legionaries recruited outside all Masses in their parish. Morning Star Hostel has monthly Adoration and it was suggested that they should try to have it more frequently, citing the daily Adoration which takes place in the Morning Star in Dublin and which attracts regular adorers.
Down Curia: A number of legionaries from the Curia went on PPC projects, including their Spiritual Director Fr. Fleck. Praesidia works include, Enthronement of the Sacred Heart in the homes, Fatima Statue visitation, visiting Primary Schools and speaking on the Miraculous Medal. The Acies Ceremony and a Mass in honour of Edel Queen were celebrated.

DUBLIN NORTHSIDE
Consolata Curia: A praesidium of 6 full members and one probationer help to run the attached junior praesidium. Each October they organise a candle-light Rosary Procession around the School and Church grounds; the statue of Our Lady used is blessed and brought to homes during the year. They also run the Church Repository; a lady who asked for help heating her baby’s bottle expressed an interest in becoming a Catholic and was put in contact with the Parish Priest. A praesidium with 5 members has four Fatima Statues in circulation. ‘Alive’ newspapers are left in the Airport Church. The Curia took part in an outreach to mark the Year of Mercy. Schools in two parishes were visited and the Miraculous Medal DVD shown to the Sacrament classes, who were then given religious packs. Contact was made in local restaurants and street contact work was done.

Presentata Curia: Regina Pacis praesidium does duty in the Regina Coeli Hostel two evenings a week and the occasional Sunday. During the year 6 people were recruited; they now have 11 full and 4 probationary members. Members of the praesidium organised various events including regular DVD nights, a talk by a member of Cenaclo and a talk in St. Agatha’s Church on the Pioneers, after w


Exaltata Curia has 9 praesidia. Two members of one praesidium are Praetorians. Most weeks 6 legionaries do home visitation; a lady from Cameroon with three boys, one with severe disabilities, had all three baptised last August and the family now regularly attend Sunday Mass; they were put in contact with Crosscare and other agencies for help. Every week patients in St. Mary’s Hospital are visited, including former residents of the Legion hostels who have no close family. The family of a deceased former resident of the Morning Star Hostel were very appreciative of the Legion for speaking at his funeral Mass. The praesidium also helped the Parish Priest in another parish with his “Night Fever” initiative in a Shopping Centre whereby shoppers were invited to light a candle and pray in the Oratory; for many it was a first introduction to the Oratory.

Bethlehem Curia: One praesidium reported a new member. Five South Americans joined another praesidium. 18 patricians and 5 legionaries attended two Patrician meetings. Another praesidium reported four full members and two probationers. During street contact on O’Connell Street they make use of the Miraculous Medal, a faith card and the Legion’s Confession leaflet. An average of ten people attended their monthly Frank Duff Prayer Group, which takes one hour and includes an excerpt from Finola Kennedy’s biography on Frank Duff titled: ‘A Life Story’. During the summer months, a book barrow was set up outside the Legion House; one boy asked for a Miraculous Medal and explained that he was being bullied at school and that his parents were separated; the legionaries promised to pray for him. Our Lady of Victories praesidium, formed in 1923, has a monthly stand outside Presentata House in an effort to recruit. 16 bars were visited to promote the Barman’s Retreat; in one bar they met a group of girls who had fond memories of being in the Edel Quinn Club. On behalf of the Curia they organise a quarterly Edel Quinn Promoters Meeting, 12 legionaries and one non-legionary attended the latest meeting.

Porta Coeli Curia: The works of one praesidium include home visitation; they deliver 15 Maria Legionis quarterly and 30 parish newsletters weekly. There are 2 Praetorians amongst the seven active members in another praesidium; they have 6 Adjutorians. A recruiting drive resulted in 3 visitors. In one nursing home wheelchair-bound patients are wheeled into the grounds and special attention is given to the bedbound.

Veneranda Curia: A new praesidium has started a Patrician meeting. A Gaelic-speaking praesidium screened the TG4 documentary on Frank Duff, followed by discussion and refreshments. A member of another praesidium joined a Seminary. Works include the Church bookshop, distributing 60 Maria Legionis, home and nursing home visitation; in the latter up to 22 residents take part in the weekly Rosary and Legion prayers, followed by socialising. A praesidium with 5 members and 110 auxiliaries, visit an elderly complex, distribute 35 Maria Legionis and manage the Church bookstall.

AFRICA
GHANA
Accra Senatus: The Senatus has requested members to become more involved and active in the promotion of the Cause of the servant of God Frank Duff, asking them to organise events and activities in their parishes and to invite the general public .The Senatus is setting up a Committee to look after the Promotion of the Cause and to report any favours received. A Spiritual Director’s Conference was organised. The Legion was well represented at the funeral of Most Rev. Thomas Kwaku Mensah, Archbishop Emeritus of Kumasi, he was a wonderful supporter of the Legion, may he Rest in Peace.
Cape Verde Regia: As a result of an Exploratio Dominicalis project 82 children and 143 adults joined the catechism class.
Senatus of Egypt: In some areas meetings cannot always be held due to the situation in the country, please keep them in your prayers

ZIMBABWE
Hwange Comitium: 250 legionaries including 31 juniors attended the Acies.

ANGOLA
Luanda Senatus: The Senatus had a meeting with its Curiae officers. Under ‘Social Mobilisation’, a campaign of vaccination against Yellow Fever was mentioned. Two legionaries represented the Legion at a National Bishop’s Conference on Street Pastoral Care organised by a Commission for Pastoral Care for Migrants and Travellers, which also invited the Legion to be represented at a workshop on Human Trafficking. Works of praesidia in Luanda include visiting homes, hospitals, leprosaria and prisons. A report from the new Curia set up in São Tomé in January, shows it has eight praesidia with 70 active members and 20 auxiliaries.
Benguela Senatus: On 31 January, 2016, the new Regia of Lobito was inaugurated with Mass concelebrated by the Bishop Emeritus of Benguela, Dom Oscar Braga, and five priests. Over 1,700 legionaries attended. At the January Senatus meeting, the four attached Regiae of Lubango, Huambo, Namibe and Kwito-Bié, presented their reports showing visitation of the sick, helping with the Liturgy in hospitals and doing cleaning in several hospitals. Namibe reported visits to the sick and prisoners and cleaning done in all the cemeteries of the Province. Namibe Regia is planning to participate in the translation of the Legion Handbook into the Umbundu language

MOZAMBIQUE
Lesotho Senatus: There is good contact with non-Catholics. A praesidium reports the visitation of alcoholics and drug addicts. Marianhill Comitium: A letter was received giving the names of the Officers and details of their Retreat.
Johannesburg Senatus: Works by praesidia include home, hospital and prison visitation and teaching catechism. Among the works of one praesidium is visiting 210 homes of non-Catholics and explaining Marian devotion.
Cape Town Senatus: The Senatus organised a very successful training weekend for legionaries in Port Elizabeth Comitium. Plans are underway for setting up a new Comitium in Pelle in September to govern the Legion in the Northern Cape.
